Kathryn Fruish

Kathryn Fruish is 35 years old and lives in central Italy with her 6 year old son and mother. Born in Manchester, she was always a keen artist but left university with an honours degree in Mechanical Engineering. After this Kathryn spent many years working in financial services in London, and then Manchester.

It was in 1999 the first of a series of life changing events happened, the death of her father aged 49. The second occurred a year after when Kathryn had a reality shattering spiritual experience. She quit her job a few days after and started to rebuild her life and faith (having rejected her religion when she was 7). Supported by the money left to her by her father, she started painting again and reading widely, fascinated and intrigued by this experience.

The next life changing event happened in 2002 when Callum, her son, was born. A single parent, Kathryn continued to paint while parenting, then moved to Italy with Callum and her mother in 2005, for the experience as much as anything else. While experiencing a lack of inspiration with painting Kathryn started to write a book in winter 2005, she enjoyed writing it immensely and is continuing writing. The childrens’ fiction ‘The Tale of the Gentle little Raindrop’ is excerpted form the full length fiction (fantasy) ‘The Master Time Traveller’. As a writer for children Kathryn would wish to inspire them to love themselves, believe in themselves and never give up on their dreams.

Kathryn’s art work is inspired by her fascination with the universe both physical and spirit, transformation, energy, and the incredible capabilities of the human spirit. Her art uses bright bold colours of red, turquoise, greens as well as gold, silver and bronze, as inspired by the embellished symbolic art of the Egyptians, alien landscapes, maps, symbols, spirals and pyramids.

As well as writing and painting Kathryn is also studying to teach English as a foreign language.

More of Kathryn's work may be found at her Myspace page and her website.
